braids!

I have braids!!!!! I think they are pretty awesome! haha So let me describe to you the setting of how I got my hair done. I was sitting on the dusty ground on top of a rice sack, sitting at the feet of this sweet African lady, who of coarse only speaks Swahili. There were chickens running around clucking away, her laundry blowing in the breeze as it was hanging to dry, and there were goats bleating in the background. I sat there for four hours! I have to say, I drew quite a crowd. You see, its not everyday you see a Mzungu, white person, getting their hair done. So there were other ladies, or Mama's, standing around me just chatting and laughing, I couldn't understand a word they said, but I know they were talking about me. Little kids gathered around playing in the dirt, singing their songs, laughing at eachother. My friend, about half way through this adventure, brought me my lunch! I bet you will never guess what I ate. It is called chips mai yai.Which is french fries cooked with eggs. It is oh so tasty, and oh so extremely greasy. but what was the most exciting part? It was  the fact that I ate this with only my hands out of a black plastic bag with my hair dangling over my face. Life is good.I find so many reasons to smile.

Only in Africa

So, today one of my classmates, Lucas, stepped on a nail while chopping firewood. So, I mean how else would you heal this, other than burning the bottom of his foot?! It was crazy! Victor, one of my other classmates picked up a piece of fire wood (that was still on fire) which we were using to cook our dinner, he got it and while someone else was holding Lucas, he burnt the bottom of his foot! Crazy right? Only in Africa.....

Laundry :)

I seriously apologize for the long gap between my last post. We have been incredibly busy! And not to mention the electricity, let alone the internet, doesn't always work here. :) I will be posting several blogs within this week, if the internet allows, to catch you up.
This morning I am getting ready to go to church for ministry. We will be performing two skits and leading the worship. As I write this I pray the internet lasts because it is pouring the rain! Usually when it rains the internet is scarce, but so far so good.
Yesterday my friend Saskia and I did our laundry together. Well.... doing laundry is pretty much an all day thing here!!!! We had about 1 and a half weeks worth of clothes each, that is quite a lot. So, we had to wash them each by hand, which wasnt so bad, but we also had to change the water in the basin, so we were constantly walking to the tank to get more water. At the same time we had water boiling, so the clothes would get somehow cleaned. So here is the picture, after Saskia washed something, she put it in another basin and I rinsed them and rung them out. Then I put them in a bucket, once that bucket was full I would take it to the clothes line and hang them up. At the same time, I had to carried bucket loads of water back to our room, but also, make sure we had water boiling as well. It was quite a process!!!! But, we built so many memories. :) The best part of the story is yet to come. So, we had been at this job for hours, we finally finished and we felt SO accomplished! As I carried our last bunch of clothes outside and began to put them on the line, It began to pour! So, yes.... lets just say, even now our clothes are still in the "rinse" cycle. haha  I will try to post our pictures of our laundry time soon.

Write Again Soon!
